Learning circle

We are telling the stories that we heard from our parents and family. They had to flee their country because otherwise they had to join the army in Syria.

People that were born in other countries must leave because there was a war there. We have got parents that were born in Syria and left because there was a war there. That’s is why I and some of my friends are Syrian but we are born in the Netherlands. Our parents left their home country because of critical problems in their homeland. They did come here for a better life , started a family and now they are living here. But now in their homeland ( Syria ) is a civil war , IS are taking places over but the president is busy taking that places over while they attack the people in Syria. Some of our parents got family there. That people are not that afraid. They will flee to other country’s soon.

Charbel wrote this report.

This is a interview made by

Elisa Hoog Antink, Megan Jansen, Rosemarie Koetse, Malene Froeling, Anne-Fleur Winkens and Stefanie Fidan.

We did a interview with a girl from Syria, that Stefanie does know.

Were/are you afraid of war?

Yes ofcourse am I afraid, but on the other side I am not afraid. I’m with my parents and family, so I feel happy.

Do you know people who are died?

Yes, friends of my dad.

Do you feel safe?

No, but I am with my family, then I feel safe.

Where did you live in Syria?

I lived in Hüms.

How did you flee from Syria?

First by car until the airport, then by airplane to The Netherlands.

Were you afraid when you had to flee?

Yes, because I didn’t know the places.

How old were you when you fled?

Twelve years old, now I am thirtheen.

How long did it take to come to The Netherlands from Syria?

A few years, we had to fill in a lot of forms.

If the war ended, would you return to Syria?

Yes, ofcourse. It’s my place of birth, my fatherland.

Do you feel blessed/happy now you are here in The Netherlands.

Yes with family and friends very much, but I miss Syria that much too.

What kind of tip would you give if war comes in The Netherlands for people who then have to flee?

Look around you and trust nobody, sometimes even your friends can let you down.

What a nice way to portray a typical day in your lives. But also to realize how blessed you are.
